Outrage in Kashmir against recognizing Jerusalem as Israel capital

Srinagar, Dec 08 (Only Kashmir): Despite restrictions, the Muslims across the Kashmir Valley on Friday held protests to condemn the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The call of protests was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. Despite the Friday following of Eid-e-Milad un Nabi (Saw), the authorities, fearing protests imposed curfew like restriction in Old City Srinagar which houses the Kashmir’s largest mosque (Jamai Masjid).

According to the reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau, dozens of protest rallies were carried out in the nook and corner of Valley against the US President Donald Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Besides disallowing Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, the authorities placed Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house confinement.

The largest protest rallies were carried out at different places including at Maisuma by JKLF activists and workers and at Soura Awami Action Committee leaders including Youth President Sufi Mushtaq Ahmad, Advocate Yasir Rouf Dalal, Farooq Saudagar, Sahil Ahmad War led a rally to protest the US move.
The protesters set to fire the effigy of the US president Donald Trump and shouted slogans like ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’. The protests carrying placards appealed world organizations to raise voice against the decision aimed to threaten the global stability and occupying Batul Muqadas, the holiest place in Islam.
Similar protests were reported from other parts of the Valley including at Lasjan led by Javaid Ahmad Mir, Narbal led by Hakeem Rashid and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Hasanabad locality of Srinagar. The call of protests was given by Joint Resistance Leadership of Kashmir.
