Kashmir News Bureau
Srinagar, Jan 31 (KNB): All Kashmir Auto Rickshaws Association approached the relevant authorities in the backdrop of 2016 historic agitation which besides taking precious human lives hurt the economy of Kashmir especially the transporters.
The association while taking up the genuine cause of transporter fraternity especially waiving of all the late fees charges on account of renewal/ documentation with respect to Kashmir based transporters, and waiving of passenger and toll tax was also raised.
The auto rickshaw owners state that from time to time orders of administrative department, Transport officials and Chief Ministers grievance cell to implement the waiver and grant a reasonable breather for late fees or breather on imposition of penalties but it has not been implemented in letter and spirit and more or less they have been like football rolled from one end to end thus adding to chaos, especially the cold shoulder lend by the Regional Transport Office RTO Kashmir.

Showkat Ahmad, President All Kashmir Auto Rickshaw Association states -“We more than ten thousand auto rickshaw drivers of Kashmir form the integral part of the Kashmir transport and have been acting as boon for same in tough times. After the huge backbreaking impact on our economy as result of 2016 we approached relevant authorities with demands of waiving of all the late fees charges on account of renewal/ documentation with respect to Kashmir based transporters , and waiving of passenger and toll tax was also raised besides relief on penalty amounts. The good number of orders and circulars were issued by the administration and transport department but ironically at Regional Transport Office the tactic has been to sideline all these and confuse them in weird technicalities and delaying tactics.
Now with silver lining in the dark clouds the recent order has halved penalties and we hope the path towards adopting orders and giving us much needed relief would be taken up.”
The auto drivers are appealing to the Chief Minister to give a sympathetic heed to their problems and ensure that orders issued, promises made are soon implemented and RTO Kashmir made to work swiftly in this direction.
