Meraj ul Alam ﷺ observed across Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, April 14 (KNB): Meraj-ul-Alam (the night of Journey and Ascension) was observed across the Kashmir valley on Saturday after nightlong prayers at different mosques and shrines of Valley. The main religious functions will be held at the Hazratbal shrine on the banks of the Dal Lake where the holy relic of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was displayed for displayed for devotees.
Pertinently, the day is observed on 27th Rajab, as per the Islamic lunar calendar to mark the anniversary of heavenly journey of Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Unmistakably, from the Ahadith and books of history, it is mentioned that on the night of Meraj, Allah (swt) gave the order of the five daily Salat as being mandatory upon the Islamic Nation.



Governor NN Vohra has greeted people on Shab-e-Meraj. In his message, the Governor expressed hope that the celebration of the auspicious occasion would further strengthen the bonds of amity, harmony and brotherhood among all communities and be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the state. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti felicitated the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Meraj. In her message, the Chief Minister said the night of Meraj was a sacred occasion to seek divine blessings and forgiveness from the Almighty Allah. She appealed to people to bow before him tonight and specially seek an end to bloodshed, violence and acrimony in the state and elsewhere. Making a special prayer, Mehbooba Mufti hoped that the blessed night brought along peace, prosperity and happiness to the people of the state.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who was scheduled to address a gathering at historic Ali Masjid Srinagar on the eve of Meraj ul Alam ﷺ was prevented by the authorities and was placed under house confinement. (KNB)
