"India is shrinking the space for peaceful dissenters as well. Actions like these are highly condemnable and will force even the pacifists to think of other options."

Srinagar, Dec 06 (Only Kashmir): A heavy contingent of J & K Police led by SHO Maisuma raided the residence of Hurriyat (M) senior leader and People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and arrested him aimed to foil the ‘Human Rights Week’ programme of Joint Resistance Ledaership. War was taken to Police Station Maisuma and is lodged there.

Pertinently, War was supposed to lead a peaceful protest under the banner Hurriyat Conference today but was not allowed to express his views through a peaceful assembly. The spokesman said the Police move amounts to state oppression and denial of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. This shows the highhandedness of Governor Administration and the times we are living.
PPP condemns the police action in the strongest of the words and believes that measures like these will only deteriorate the situation further. “These arm-twisting tactics of the state will further worsen the situation and deepen the distrust,” said a party spokesman, “We can’t take it hands down. India is shrinking the space for peaceful dissenters as well. Actions like these are highly condemnable and will force even the pacifists to think of other options.”
