Kashmir: 3 encounters in 3 days, 9 militants killed

Reports said that a couple of militants turned up at the funeral of Syed Ruban at Nazneenpora in Shopian and offered a gun-salute.

Srinagar, Jan 23 (Only Kashmir): On Wednesday when people of Kashmir in twin districts Pulwama and Shopian were busy to bury the local six militants, another gunfight rages between militants and government forces in Baramulla resulting the killing of another three militants taking the toll of total militants killed in three consecutive days to nine.
On Wednesday three militants were killed in Binnar area of Baramulla, Kashmir. The slain militants were identified as Suhaib Farooq Akhoon, Mohsin Mushtaq Bhat, Qazi Hamam Baramulla and Nasir Ahmad Darzi. Police said slain militants were affiliated with LeT.



On Tuesday, three militants were killed in in an encounter with the government forces in Shopian district of Kashmir Valley. The militants were identified as Dr Shamsul Haq Mengnoo (brother of a senior Police officer), Amir Ahmed Bhat, and Shoiab Ahmed Shah.
On Monday evening government forces killed three militants identified as Syed Rubani, Sabzar Ahmad and Touseef Ahmad in Budgam district.
The slain six militants were buried amid sobs and tears on Wednesday in their respective areas. Reports said that thousands of people despite the restrictions managed to participate in the funerals of the militants. In the ongoing month 13 militants have been killed.
Meanwhile, internet service has been suspended in the parts of Pulwama, Shopian and Baramulla. A number of civilians were also injured in post-encounter clashes in several places.
Reports said that a couple of militants turned up at the funeral of Syed Ruban at Nazneenpora in Shopian and offered a gun-salute. “It was mourning everywhere in these twin districts of South Kashmir. Government Forces had sealed routes leading to the native villages of these slain militants but people defied these restrictions and took alternate routes to participate in the funeral processions,” said an eyewitness to news agency CNS.
