PM’s J&K Visit: Security heightened, Bikers alleging harassment

Srinagar, Feb 02 (Only Kashmir): Ahead of the Prime Minister Narender Modi’s visit to the Jammu and Kashmir state on 03 February 2019 security across the state has been beefed while bikers in summer capital Srinagar mostly the youngsters are alleging the Police harassment.
Pertinent to mention here, the Prime Minister will visit Jammu, Srinagar and Leh on Feb 03, 2019. He will inaugurate/lay foundation stones for various development projects there. He will also inspect Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Reports reaching Onlykashmir[dot]in that hundreds of two-wheelers are seized by the police at different places of Srinagar. Though the police said motorcycles are being seized subject to the nonavailability of valid documents, the bikers, however, alleging harassment said “despite producing all the documents bikes are being seized without the valid reason.”
A youth Adil Ahmad hailing from Eidgah Srinagar talking to Onlykashmir[dot]in, said “my bike was seized at Munawarabad despite I produced all the documents including registration certificate, license, insurance etc.”
Another youth Yaqoob Ahmad from HMT Srinagar said that Police at Parimpora seized my bike without any valid reasons, adding when asked the reasons they said it was a security measure to seize the two-wheelers. He said about hundred bikes are lying there and all bikers have been informed that no bike would be released till 03 February 5.PM.
Reports said ahead of PM’s visit to Valley various check posts have been set up at different places in Srinagar including at Parimpora, Munawarabad, Jahangir Chowk etc. Earlier government forces on Friday launched a Cordon and Search Operation in commercial hub Lal Chowk Srinagar.
Taking note of the youngsters’ grievances former MLA Langate Engineer Rashid posted a picture of seized bikes, stating “It is not a workshop but Parimpora Sgr. Where Police seizing motorcycles ahead of PM’s visit to Kashmir. They are doing it everywhere. “Their documents are ok. Seems Modi jee yahan panipat kee Ladie ladnay as rahay hein.”


“While much hype is being given to Prime Minister’s visit but the fact is that entire Kashmir is looking like a battlefield and life of jail return militants, pro-resistance leaders and common men are being made a hell. Even the bikes are being seized at various check posts without a reason and the ugly face of the state is visible everywhere.” AIP Spokesman Sheeban Ashie said here in a statement.
“Ahead of @narendramodi visit, panic buttons pressed by the authoritarian state and control tightened as searches and CASO conducted even in Lal Chowk! Today morning I was put under # HouseArrest,” Tweets Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.


Pertinently, the Joint Resistance Leadership in a joint statement asked the Kashmiri people to halt their activities as a mark of protest against Modi’s visit on the day.
Traffic Police issues advisory 
As per the traffic plan, no traffic shall be allowed to ply from Badyari Chowk to Nishat via Boulevard and similarly, no traffic shall be allowed to ply from Ram Munshi Bagh towards Grand Palace and Nishat via Gupkar.
Commuters traveling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat and adjacent areas towards Lal Chowk are requested to travel via Foreshore Road & Hazratbal.
Further, the commuters travelling from Dalgate, Lal Chowk and adjacent areas towards Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat shall adopt Nowpora, Khayam, Rainawari to reach their respective destinations. (OK)
