Civilians blinded by pellets  in Kashmir got Government jobs

Srinagar, Dec 05 (Only Kashmir): The orders of appointments were today distributed among a group of victims mostly youth who lost their eyesight due to pellet injuries during the 2016 Kashmir Unrest which following the killing of Hizb Commander Burhan Muzzaffar Wani. Around 1200 persons were pelted to blindness in one eye from a total number of 2500 civilian affectees. More than 40 persons suffered pellet injuries in both eyes and lost eye sight. Hundreds received lifelong (crippled) injuries. The use of pellet fires was globally condemned.
According to a government statement, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday distributed orders of appointment among a group of victims who lost their eyesight due to pellet injuries during the law and order situations in the Valley last year.
This is in continuation of her earlier measures taken for the rehabilitation of the victims of violence during the unrest of last year.
According to Onlykashmir.in sources, the Mehbooba led state government is conducting a programme by DPS Srinagar co-founder Vijay Dhar for children with special needs to train pellet victims for jobs.

It may be recalled that on September 14 and 28 the Chief Minister had also disbursed financial assistance among two groups of such pellet victims. Besides, the Chief Minister had supervised the treatment of these victims last year as well.
According to data compiled from official records by the J&K government for the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) at least 2,524 people were injured by pellets, many in the eyes, in eight of the 10 districts in the Kashmir valley during the crackdown on protests that followed the killing of militant Burhan Wani on July 8 last year.
The pellets which were introduced in Kashmir Valley to minimize casualties’ aftermath the killing of over 130 youth during the civil agitation of 2010 have proved to be most lethal particularly in 2016 Kashmir Unrest. (OK)
