Kashmir Crushed Dreams: Meet the heartbroken family of Danish Haroo of Palpora

One hundred Civilian killings, Fourteen thousand injured, more than thousand blinded by lethal pellets and thousands arrested was the brutal response from the state during the public uprising in Kashmir which erupted aftermath the killing of militant commander Burhan Muzafar Wani.
Every village, Urban Center, Town, Hamlet, House, Mohalla was drenched in mourning. Onlykashmir.in aimed to get a view how many scars 2016 atrocities have left on Kashmir travelled to number of victim families to gauge the ground zero situation and sentiment. Among them, today under the title ‘KashmirCrushedDreams’ we bring the story of minor boy Danish Sultan Haroo who was hit by a stone and fell into river resulting his death on 55th day of the uprising.

 One of the youngest victims of the 2016 agitation was 12 year old Danish Sultan Haroo from Palpora Qamarwari. As soon the Onlykashmir.in team make entry into their house painful voices and sad faces of entire Haroo family greet us.

His family admits that he used to be a protester stating that protest for Kashmir resolution is our legal right. Family members state that Danish Sultan Haroo, was running when protestors were being chased by forces in Parimpora area and after being hit with a stone, he fell into river. His body was retrieved after 24 hours. Entire locality and the, family states that Danish was quite mature than his age – a thinking brain, running medical shop single-handedly and well at education.

Tears have been non-stop rolling down the eyes of Danish’s mother Hajrah since his death, she states that her world has been destroyed. -“ Danish was very dear to me and his death has shattered my world. He was killed in most inhuman manner by the state police and after being hit by stone he fell into river and no immediate rescue was allowed by men in uniform. We don’t know what else he was hit as even when being given final bath before laying him for eternal rest his head, ears were profusely bleeding. His father and I have been plagued by several diseases after his martyrdom. When we tried to lodge an FIR we were chased away and cops clearly refused to lodge it, ” states Hajrah.

Danish’s brother Aqib Haroo says that Danish continuously comes in dream of his and sisters . Aqib states “ Our brother in dreams says us that he was not just hit by stone but also bullet. He was also a swimmer and drowning death is unlikely and it looks something more than stone was hit on his head. I tried in initial hours to jump into river to save my beloved brother but all efforts were halted by cruel forces. Even the fourth day obituary gathering was brutalized by cops of Parimpora Police station.”
Pertinently, Danish was bright student of Oxford school and according to family used to secure second position in his school exams. (END)
