New Delhi/Srinagar, Sep 26 (Only Kashmir): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday evening questioned the President of a Kashmir Traders Association President Yasin Khan and a Kashmir University Ph.D. scholar Aala Fazil in connection with its case of terror funding against Hurriyat leaders. Their names are said to have emerged during interrogation of other arrested accused in the case.
Pertinently, the NIA had registered a case on May 30 against separatist leaders, including unidentified members of the Hurriyat Conference for allegedly raising, receiving and collecting funds through various illegal means, including hawala, for funding separatist and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NIA has arrested 10 people so far. They include Altaf Ahmed Shah, son-in-law of Geelani, Advocate Shahidul Islam, a close aide of Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and businessman Zahoor Watali. Syed Ali Geelani’s close aides Ayaz Akbar, who is the spokesperson of hardline Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, and Peer Saifullah have also been arrested.
Meanwhile, reports reaching Onlykashmir.in said that a complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Monday against the issuance of NIA notice to Yasin Khan. The shutdown was called by Traders Federation and was supported by Joint Hurriyat leadership. Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in Old City Srinagar on Monday to maintain the law and order.
Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman while strongly condemning Curfew and curbs in Old City Srinagar said that these tactics by the government reflect its dictatorial approach towards the people of Kashmir, adding, the old city is targeted every time any incident happens anywhere in Kashmir.
Earlier on 6th September the separatist Leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik while jointly addressing Press Conference at historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar announced that all Hurriyat leaders will go NIA Headquarters New Delhi themselves. However, authorities placed curbs on them on 9th September the day they were proposed to visit New Delhi. The day also coincided with the HM Rajnath Singh’s visit to Valley.
