Over a decade first time sitting DC visits historic Jamia Masjid

Srinagar, Dec 20 (Only Kashmir): Over a decade first time a sitting deputy commissioner of Srinagar district Tuesday visited the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar wherein he was apprised about the concerns regarding development of the surrounding by members of civil society and representatives of several traders’ associations.

The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Tuesday during his tour of Shahr-e-Khas, visited historic Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta Srinagar. The visit is said to be the first in years by a sitting deputy commissioner of the district. During the visit, members of civil society and representatives of several traders’ associations of the area called on the DC and apprised him of their concerns about development and peace in the area.

On the occasion, Dr. Shah also visited the fire-affected shops at Gojwara Chowk here where at least 11 shops were gutted in a mid-night fire incident this past Friday. He sought an authenticated list of the affected shopkeepers from the concerned Tehsilder in order that relief is processed to the affected at the earliest.

The DC visited several areas surrounding Jamia Masjid on the occasion. The representatives escalated several local concerns of the area, bringing them to the notice of the DC and seeking their redress.

Demands of pacing up ongoing developmental works in the area were also made by the locals. The DC said the historic centre holds a particularly invaluable significance for the district and assured that all kinds of support will be provided by the district administration for its development. He issued on-spot instructions for redress of various concerns raised on the occasion. He also assured of talking up ongoing development works with concerned agencies.

The DC also visited the Khanqah-e-Maula shrine on the occasion and took stock of the ongoing restoration work in the wake of fire incident there last month. He reiterated his instructions for time-bound completion of the restoration work. (OK)
