Shopian operation launched to check bank robbery, cop killings: Army Chief
New Delhi, May 04 (Only Kashmir): Chief of the Indian Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat has said that the combing operation in Shopian area of South Kashmir is to make sure that situation is brought under control, post recent incidents, adding, Banks have been looted, policemen have been killed. That is why today’s combing operation is taking place. Pertinently, more than thirty thousand personnel of government forces have besieged 25 to 30 villages of South Kashmir’s Shopian area.
“Terrorists are going to attempt infiltration; snows are melting, summer months started so like each year infiltration will commence. We are taking measures, have beefed up our counter-infiltration posture to take care of the situation,” he added

On Wednesday, two banks, 30 km apart, in Kashmir’s Pulwama were robbed by armed men in a span of two hours on Wednesday, taking the number of such heists this week to three. Nearly Rs. 6 lakh in cash was taken. The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh for information on forces behind the attack.
