Two militants and a lady civilian killed in Shopian Encounter, dozens injured

Srinagar, Dec 19 (Only Kashmir): Two militants were killed in the nocturnal gunfight that began late last evening after forces launched a search operation on a tip-off at Batmurran village of Shopian South Kashmir. A lady civilian was also killed Tuesday morning when forces launched a search operation to look for third militant believed to be hiding in the area. A number of youth with bullet and pellet injuries were shifted to Srinagar for treatment.
At least twenty people most youth among three were hit by bullets near the site of gunfight in the clashes that erupted in Batmurran village after the nocturnal gunfight that began late last evening in which two militants were killed.
Reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau that government forces resorted to firing and teargas shells to disperse the protesters near the site of the gunfight soon after the news of the killing of a civilian lady spread.
The slain lady was identified as Ruby Jan aka Beauty (24), wife of Manzoor Ahmad, was hit by a bullet in her abdomen during clashes. She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed on way.
Two JeM militants were identified as Tanveer Ahmad from Bata Murran Shopian and Ali @Qari, a foreigner. Two AK rifles and other allied ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
According to the police the duo were involved in recent attack on the vehicle of J&K Bank near Poju Shopian on 11th of December 2017 in which two bank guards were killed.
Meanwhile dozens of injured youth were shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for treatment, sources said that a youth hit by pellet in critical condition was shifted to SKIMS.
Pertinently, with the killing of Beauty Jan, the death toll of civilians in the government action mounts to three in last two weeks. Earlier Misra Bano and Asif Iqbal were killed in North Kashmir in forces action.
JRL Calls for Valley Wide Shutdown Tomorrow
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer and Yasin Malik calls for valley vide shutdown tomorrow against the back to back civilian killings in Handwara, Bandipora & Shopain by Government Forces.
A spokesman appealed for a complete shutdown in Kashmir tomorrow against the killings of Misra Bano, Asif Iqbal and Beauty Jan.
The Joint Resistance Leadership also held a protest rally against civilian killings. Meanwhile JKLF (H) Chairman Javaid Ahmad Mir along with activists of Salvation Movement visits pellet victims at SMHS hospital.
CM expresses grief over death of a young woman at Shopian today
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of a young girl during a search operation in the Batmurran village of Shopian district today.
The Chief Minister said that it is very unfortunate that a web of violence has been cast in which the local and innocent civilians of the State have been caught. She said she has been reiterating that both civil society and the Government have to work together to end this cycle of violence in the State. Mehbooba Mufti has expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
