Srinagar, Nov 17 (Only Kashmir): In order to do the research of the fossil deposits and other Geo-science research in Kashmir, 25 scientists from different 16 counties concluded their field tour to Kashmir during which they visited Fossil Park at Khunmoh, in Pulwama. The scientists conducted field work on various aspects of geosciences including fluvial geomorphology, glaciology, tectonic geomorphology, paleoclimatology and paleoseismology conditions.
The scientist visited Kashmir Himalayas in a sequel to 9th International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG)-2017 event held at New Delhi in which 760 delegates from 16 countries participated during November 6 to November 11, 2017.
Prof M S Bhat Dean School of Earth and Environmental Scientists University of Kashmir was the convener of the field visit of the scientists.
He discussed possibilities of exploring collaborative research initiative with the scientists MoUs on different projects with the visiting scientists.
He hoped that future research in earth sciences using modern technology is conducted.
The highlights of the field tour was tectonic and geomorphology investigations of Himalayan Terrain which was conducted by Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Dr Akhtar Alam and Dr Shabir Ahmad who were the Co-conveners of the programme.
Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah also interacted with the scientists during their tour and expressed hope that such visits by the scientists to Kashmir would continue as part of the research.
He said tourism department is also in a process of developing Fossil Park at PT Boundary at Khunmoh which will be an attraction for the researchers from across the globe.
Prof Roberth Thomas of the USA expressed happiness over visiting Kashmir for research program. He said Kashmir was not only beautiful but had lot of resources.
The scientist expressed willingness to visit Kashmir again in large numbers for more research in Geomorphology.
The foreign geologists also appreciated the move of developing Fossil Park at Khunmoh.
