Mehbooba gives nod to withdrawal of cases against 4327 youth, says root cause of militancy needs to be identified

Srinagar, Nov 29 (Only Kashmir): Under the banner of Healing Touch, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday approved the withdrawal of cases against 4327 youth involved in 744 cases of law and order nature. The CM also stressed to identify and fix the root cause of militancy in Kashmir.
The withdrawal of cases against these youth was a major demand from various sections of the society in the State who would be heaving a sigh of relief after this decision.
The Chief Minister described today’s decision as a ray of hope for these young boys and their families terming it as an opportunity for them to rebuild their lives. She hoped the decision would help in creating a positive and conciliatory atmosphere in the State where the youth would be able to build their lives in a much more constructive and positive way.

Earlier Addressing the Attestation cum Passing Out Parade of 25th batch of Police Training School, Kathua, Mehbooba Mufti said the root cause of militancy needs to be identified and fixed. She said recently she has ordered the review of cases against the youth during the unrest of last year. “You need to do the parenting of these youth who are barely of 12-14 years of age. They need to be counselled, educated and guided for which you people have to act as their guide philosophers”, she asked the Police.
Terming the recent incident of manhandling of prisoners at Tihar Jail as unacceptable and shameful, the Chief Minister said by such an act the personnel involved have not only brought disrespect to their State but to their fraternity as well. She said our country being a civilized democracy; even the convicts have been guaranteed legal protection which ought to be extended to them.
Listing drug abuse as another challenge to the Force, Mehbooba Mufti asked the Police to chase drug peddlers with full force and secure the innocent youth from the clutches of drug addiction. She said she was happy to see that a de addiction centre set up by Police at Srinagar is working quite nicely but stressed on setting up each such centre at every district headquarters.
