Gurupurab festival observed with religious fervor in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 05 (KNB): Gurupurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, was Saturday celebrated with religious fervor across Jammu and Kashmir. The main function was held at Gurdwara Chatipadshahi at Rainawari where a large number of Sikhs braving cold participated in special prayers.
According to the reports reaching KNB, special langar were also organized for the devotees in Gurdwaras. Similar celebrations were also held in other local Gurdwaras including Jawahar Nagar, Allochibagh, Barzulla, Tral, Rangreth, Pattan and Baramulla and others.

Earlier, in a message of felicitations, Governor N N Vohra observed that Guru Gobind Singh was a warrior and a philosopher-poet, who strived for establishing a society based on equality, brotherhood, and respect for women.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti also greeted people on the occasion of Gurupurab-the birthday anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikh religion.
In her message, she said the values underlying the teachings of the great Guru should guide our endeavours to establish a just and egalitarian society. She said Jammu & Kashmir has been an abode of communal harmony and these occasions strengthen the inter community bonds which she said is need of the hour.
Pertinently, Guru Nanak Sahib (the founder of Sikhism) was born on 15th April, 1469 at Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present district of Shekhupura in Pakistan, now Nanakana Sahib.
