Srinagar, Jan 06: At least 15 people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir after a snow avalanche swept away a passenger taxi in Sadhna top on Karnah road in frontier district of Kupwara in which nine people feared death, in other incident six passengers were killed and twenty-four others injured after a mini-bus met with an accident in Ramnagar area.
According to the reports KNB received here, bodies of nine missing passengers have been recovered so far in ongoing rescue operation launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and army near high-altitude Sadhna top on Karnah road in frontier district of Kupwara, where a snow avalanche swept away a passenger taxi.
In other incident a mini bus bearing registration number JK14A 0273 rolled down at Kawa in Ramnagar Saturday afternoon, resulting in on spot death of six passengers and injuries to six others.
Meanwhile in third of its kind incident, six residents of Himachal Pradesh were today injured when their vehicle hit a roadside tree in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.
Expressing grief over the incidents, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in her tweet said, “Distressed over the loss of lives in a snow avalanche at Sadhna Top in Kupwara.”
Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement to KNB also expressed his grief and heartfelt condolence over the death of many people and children due to avalanche at Kupwara district and in the road accident at Ram Nagar Jammu.
