Srinagar, Jan 23 (KNB): Star Cricketer Irfan Pathan is nearing the finalization of his move to Jammu & Kashmir, having held discussions with Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) head Ashiq Hussain Bukhari. The JKCA has also called a meeting on Wednesday (January 24) to take a final call.
Sources in JKCA told Kashmir News Bureau, that Irfan Pathan, an India discard, is likely to take over as a player-cum-mentor of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket team for which he recently obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Baroda Cricket Association.
“The formalities could be completed once Bukhari Sahib, who is now travelling, is back in the country. We have also called a meeting on Wednesday (January 24) to take a final call. The JKCA head also held meeting with former India captain Kapil Dev in this regard,” said an official while talking to KNB.
If Pathan steps in, it would not be the first time that JKCA would be hiring a professional player from another state. Most recently, it had roped in Mithun Manhas (Delhi) as its player-mentor, later turned coach.
With JKCA inching closer to seal the deal, Pathan’s first-class cricket career is set to be revived for now. (KNB)
