Srinagar, Feb 02 (KNB): The authorities on Friday foiled the Shopian march called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) in wake of the recent back to back killings in forces action in the district last week. JRL leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tried to defy the house confinement but were not allowed to move towards the venue, however, JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik slips the police and managed to reach Shopian amid Curfew and restrictions in parts of the Valley.
In a bid to foil the Shopian march called by JRL the government on Friday imposed strict restrictions in parts of Valley including in Downtown Srinagar besides putting all the separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Javaid Ahmad Mir, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash and other under arrest either in their residences or in different police stations. The JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, however, managed to reach Shopian wherein he addressed a gathering at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
Reports reaching KNB stated, that Chairmen of parallel Hurriyat factions Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday while defying house confinement came out from their residences Hyderpora and Nigeeen respectively and tried to march towards Shopian however, large contingent of police and CRPF did not allow them to move further and were arrest on spot.
Reports reaching KNB, that clashes erupted in Shopian after police detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik who had managed to reach there early today after given slip to the police.
Meanwhile no Friday prayers for the consecutive second week were allowed at Jamia Masjid Srinagar in view of the restrictions imposed in parts of Valley including in Downtown which house the mosque in a bid to foil the Shopian march called by JRL against the killing of 5 youth. (KNB)
