Srinagar, Feb 12: The militants on Monday morning again stormed in Kara Nagar area of Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar City, six days after two policemen were killed last week in (SMHS) to make the escape route for a foreign militant. The attack comes hours after government troops ended a two-day gun battle with three armed gunmen at an army camp in Jammu. Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed the responsibility of attack.
Reports reaching KNB, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable identified Mujahid Khan has been killed in the ongoing gun battle in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar.
“In the wee hours, a sentry of 23 battalion stationed at Karanagar noticed a suspicious movement. He challenged the suspects. They ran into the nearby building behind National School,” said a CRPF official here.
Meanwhile claiming the responsibility of Kara Nagar attack, the Lashkar spokesman in a statement has said “the freedom fighters of Lashkar-e-Taiba continue to seize control of the stronghold in Karan Nagar (Srinagar).”
In the meantime, reports suggest that the building in Kara Nagar area of Srinagar where militants are hiding will be razed to ground, following the RDX was brought on site.
Roads leading to Hedwun aka SMHS hospital stands sealed, causing inconveniences to the patients and attendants besides 3G and 4G mobile internet services were snapped in Srinagar.
CRPF’s 23 battalion and Director General’s office are situated close to each other at Karan Nagar.
Pertinently, two policemen were killed on 06 February in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) by suspected militants to make the escape route for a foreign militant identified as Naveed Jat alias Abu Hanzullah.
