Srinagar, Apr 10 (Only Kashmir): The family of late Ahad Jan-who shot to fame after hurling a shoe on the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has been living from hand to mouth as police department have allegedly ceased his GP fund.
Ahad Jan, who was a head constable in the police department according to his family members, was not reinstated even though the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in 2010 had declared amnesty for him.
“Since the shoe hurling incident in 2010 till his death in February 2017, my husband wandered from pillar to post requesting authorities to reinstate him. But he died as a suspended policeman. After his death, police department ceased his GP Fund account which added to our hardships,” Bega Begum, his wife said.
“Whatever remuneration lies in the police department that he (Ahad Jan) has earned through hard labour should be given to us. We are living a wretched life as after his death, we don’t have any earning hand in the family,” added his wife.
She said both Omar Abdullah and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti assured her that she will get all the money lying in the GP Fund account of her husband. “Nothing changed on the ground even though, I personally met Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Police Department is not even providing pension to me,” she said.
“I request Chief Minister and Police Chief to look into the matter,” Bega Begum said.
A police official from Personnel Section said that they have no knowledge about the matter.
