Srinagar, April 30 (KNB): With today’s Cabinet reshuffle, the PDP will have Muhammad Khalil Band, an MLA from Pulwama, and Mohammad Ashraf Mir, an MLA from Sonwar, as Cabinet ministers, with induction of the latter is considered a major representation of Srinagar city in a big way. A city of more than 1.5 million and among the oldest cities of world Srinagar has always complained over it being underrepresented when it comes to ministerial berths and important portfolios.
Political watchers state that Ashraf Mir induction into State Cabinet will boost both the youth of Srinagar and its neglected people in terms of overall development.
Asif Ahmad, a youth from Downtown Srinagar stated – “Srinagar city has long been left out of developmental horizon as a result people from all the areas of this big city have suffered. The absence of basic amenities on ground zero has added to the woes of citizens of Srinagar, now we hope with the prominent and grassroots face of Mohammad Ashraf Mir as Cabinet Minister hopes have been raised that development will be ushered in the Srinagar District and he will use his political experience to change the dynamics of development in the Srinagar area towards betterment.”
On the ground zero, the Srinagar District has over the decades felt left out of real development and there is an urgent need for creation of new business districts like the South Business District, North Business District so that economic growth is achieved in a balanced manner, and with Ashraf Mir induction this is expected to get boost.
Pertinently, former Chief Minister and political stalwart, Omar Abdullah was in last elections defeated Ashraf Mir on winning from Sonawar constituency. (KNB)
