Srinagar, May 02 (KNB): Outrage, anger, disgust was witnessed on Wednesday as news of school bus pelted with stones in Zavoora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district came into light causing injuries to two minor students among them one with head injury was shifted to Srinagar for specialized care.
Given details of the incident Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief, Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted “miscreants pelted stones on school bus of Rainbow School Shopian resulted in injuries to 2nd class student Rehan. He has been shifted to SKIMS for treatment with head injury. Complete madness how stone pelters are targeting young school children. These criminals will face the law.”
Expressing shock and anguish over the incident, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti wrote on Twitter “Shocked & angered to hear of the attack on a school bus in Shopian. The perpetrators of this senseless & cowardly act will be brought to justice.”
Terming the incident as inhuman, the father of the injured minor student said that “my son has been injured in stone pelting, this is against humanity. This could have been anyone’s child.”
Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday expressed his dismay over stone throwing incident in Shopian, wherein a school bus carrying children was targeted by some unscrupulous elements.
Terming the incident quiet disturbing Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said one fails to understand why a school bus carrying children was targeted? He said that those who indulge in such hooliganism should realize that these actions tarnish our movement and provide an opportunity to our adversary to defame it. Mirwaiz said that it is the duty of each Kashmiri to safeguard the people’s movement for which immense sacrifices are being given and do no such thing that will be detrimental to it in any way.
Minister for School Education, Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali terming the incident as horrific, assured the student community that the government would take every possible step to ensure their safety and security.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while reacting to the incident said, “The amnesty granted to stone-pelters was meant to encourage more reasonable behavior but some of these goons are determined to use the opportunity given to them to just pelt more stones.”
While referring to attack on school bus in Shopian MLA Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid appealed students to make education their priority and restrain from targeting their own colleagues.
Nisar Ahmad, a youth stated – “This is new low and no ideology can be used or should be used to defend the heinous act of pelting stones on school bus. The culprits should be handed exemplary punishment so that nobody dares to do such inhuman act. One cannot imagine the foolish, cowardly mentality behind such disgraceful act. We need to introspect where we are heading as a society. We need to raise our voice against such acts.”
From left, right to center everyone condemned this ghastly approach. Ruling party PDP Youth leader Tahir Syeed, while reacting to the episode stated –“Latest: Cowards aiming to get political justice to Kashmiris, target a school bus, grievously injuring two minor students. Another reminder to those– sympathizing with these “street revolutionaries” & justify their every criminal act! (KNB)
