Quarter million faithful offered Jummat-ul-Vida prayers at Jamia Masjid

Srinagar, June 08 (KNB): For the first in two years the Jummat-ul-Vida (last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan) prayers were allowed at Kashmir’s grand mosque Jamia Masjid Srinagar where almost a quarter million people offered congregation prayers amid extreme heat wave.
Reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) stated that almost a quarter million devotees who had come from several parts of valley offered Jummat-ul-Vida congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar amid amid extreme heat wave.
Last year 2017, following the alleged lynching of a senior police official outside the mosque, the government for the first time in living memory of people barred devotees to offer Juma-tul-vida prayers at Jamia Masjid.



Reports said that it is after the “brutal Dogra regime” that the Jummah-tul-Vida prayers were not allowed in the Mosque.
According to KNB monitoring desk, last time, it was 2016, a week before militant commander Burhan Wani’s killing, Jummat-ul-Vida congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid.
Reports said the sight of quarter million people offering prayers within and outside the precincts of the Masjid on Friday was awe-inspiring.
Earlier, Kashmir chief cleric and Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered the traditional sermon at Jamia Masjid.
“Special arrangements were made for the devotees who had come to offer the prayers at Jamia,” a member of Jamia Auqaf Committee said here. (KNB)
