PIB Srinagar organizes Rural Media Workshop at Bandipora

Srinagar, Sep 05 (Only Kashmir): Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar on Wednesday organized a one day Rural Media Workshop/Vartalap at Conference Hall DC Office Bandipora aiming at sensitization and capacity building of rural journalists about various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and their role to bring awareness among common people.
The program was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and included about 70 eminent media persons from Bandipora and Ganderbal districts and other administrative officers.
DDC Bandipora in his address said that media persons predominantly focus on anti-establishment news thereby ignoring other societal and developmental issues. Highlighting the importance of team work he said that there is a need to address the gap between media and administrative officers to end the existing trust deficit.
Laying emphasis on healthy criticism of government departments by media he maintained that administrative officers shouldn’t get offended by constructive criticism which is essential for social development. He further added that there are multiple government schemes for the benefit of people however proper awareness is needed in public for their maximum utilisation.



Deputy Director PIB Srinagar, Ghulam Abbas said that the aim of organising such program is to highlight the role of media to bring awareness among people about different government sponsored schemes and initiatives. He suggested that scheme implementation, analysis and results should also be reported properly to determine the actual outcome of the scheme at ground level.
Emphasizing the need of developmental reporting, he said that media should play an active role in bringing about awareness while district administration in implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes.

District Social Welfare Officer, Altaf Hussain Bhat; Administrative Officer JKEDI Bandipora, Mohamad Izhaar; Editor Weekly News Kashmir, Farzana Mumtaz; Raziya Noor, Correspondent Dainik Jagran; Parvez Majeed, Assistant Professor Media Department Degree College Baramulla, Arifa Tauseef from ICDS, Majid Pandit from PIB Srinagar and other eminent persons also spoke on the occasion and shared their valuable experiences. An interactive question and answer session was held after every speakers lecture.
Media persons hailed the efforts of PIB for organizing the program to highlight the benefits of Centrally Sponsored Schemes for rural people. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by DD PIB Ghulam Abbass.
