Youm-e-Ashura observed across Kashmir

Srinagar, 21 Sep (Only Kashmir): Amid strict restriction in parts of Srinagar, Youm-e-Ashura was observed on Friday with religious fervor and reverence throughout Kashmir to pay tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions for their supreme sacrifice in the battlefield of Karbala some 1400 years ago.
The largest 10th Muharram procession was taken out in Shia-dominated Zadibal area of city where thousands of Azadars or mourners participated in a procession. The authorities had made tight security arrangements in and around Zadibal besides curfew-like restrictions were imposed in many part of Srinagar city for the reasons what they say to maintain peace and prevent any kind of sectarian violence.



Pertinently, since 1989, authorities have not allowed the 8th and 10th Muharram procession here due to security reasons.
A police spokesman talking to Onlykashmir[dot]in, said that today being 10th Muharram a number of processions were taken out across Kashmir in which thousands of people participated. “In view of the sensitivity of certain areas, curfew was imposed in some police station (areas) of the Old City,” he said.
Yesterday, Jammu and Kashmir Police issued a traffic advisory in view of curbs in parts of Srinagar.
Reports of Alam and Zuljanah processions being carried out by Shia mourners were also received from other parts of Valley including Budgam, Magam, Mirgund, Pattan, Ganderbal and Baramulla. All these processions culminated peacefully and no untoward incident was reported.
