Two Kashmiries listed among 500 most influential Muslims of world

The report consists of 318 pages, the Kashmiri influential personalities Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Dr. Mubeena Ramzan have been listed on page 158 and 188 respectively.

Srinagar, Oct 25 (Only Kashmir): For the consecutive fifth year the Kashmir’s chief cleric and Chairman of his Hurriyat Conference faction Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been featured among The 500 Most Influential Muslims by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, Jordan. Besides Mirwaiz, this year Kashmiri scholar Dr. Mubeena Ramzan has also been featured in the list as an acknowledgment for her work towards providing a helping hand to the needy, would be brides, widows, orphans, and also establishes vocational training centers for women.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan President of Turkey has topped the list followed by King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al Saud king of Saudi Arabia.
The report which lies with Onlykashmir[dot]in consists of 318 pages, the Kashmiri influential personalities Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Dr. Mubeena Ramzan have been listed on page 158 and 188 respectively.



This is the 5th consecutive year since 2014, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been featured in the list of 500 most influential Muslims of world.

According to the RISISC-Jordan’s annual report for year 2018, tilted The Muslim 500, “Dr. Farooq inherited the title of the 14th Mirwaiz Mirwaiz (traditional preacher of Muslims in Kashmir) in 1990 after the martyrdom of his father.”

“At the young age of twenty, he became the chairman and founder of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a grassroots coalition of pro-freedom parties in J&K. He has raised the Kashmir problem at the United Nations, European Parliament and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), advocating dialogue with both India and Pakistan so that the aspirations of the Kashmiri people may be realized”.

The other person in the list from Kashmir is Dr Mubeena Ramzan who runs the Jamia Islamia Mahdul Muslimat, based in Sopore and in Srinagar and also heads a socio-religious organization, Ansar un Nisa. She is the lone lady from India featured in the list.
