Srinagar, Jan 25 (Only Kashmir): 7th and 9th semester students of Kashmir University’s Law department Friday staged a protest demonstration in the campus demanding deferment of their final exams to March.
Scores of students assembled at Moulana Rumi gate of the campus and blocked its entry. They also chanted slogans against the varsity’s law department authorities for their decision to hold exams in the first week of February.
Students said that they have been approaching the department since a long time and requesting them to defer their exams. “But that didn’t yield any results and we were compelled to protest,” said the protesting students.
“The department is all set to conduct our exams from 2nd February but what about those students who are stuck in Jammu and Delhi because of the inclement weather in the valley. While the University authorities are also not ready to open the hostels, so tell us where they will go,” students questioned.
“Few of our batch mates are on visit to Supreme Court which is the part of our internship programs but it is really unfortunate that the department is no thinking about them,” one of the protesting student said.
Naveed Bukhtiyar, General Secretary J&K Students Movement said: “University authorities have turned harsher then Indian army. They all are well aware about our genuine demands but still they are acting as mute spectators.”
