Jammu on Boil: Vehicles torched, JRL asks authorities for safety of Kashmiries, Curfew Imposed

Srinagar, Feb 15 (Only Kashmir): In backdrop of the Pulwama Suicide attack which consumed nearly 50 lives, the ‘communal’ tension arises in Jammu City with some elements torching the vehicles of Muslim Kashmiries living there.
Reports reaching Onlykashmir[dot]in, massive clashes erupted in Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu amid protesters torching vehicles on the roads. “More than 80 vehicles have been vandalised and 8 vehicles have been set ablaze,” eyewitnesses said. JCCI had called for a shutdown in Jammu against the deadly attack on CRPF in Pulwama district.
Taking the strong note of the situation, in exercise of powers vested in him under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, District Magistrate Jammu has ordered imposition of curfew in the area of whole Jammu city to maintain law and order, public tranquillity and to protect life and property of general public.
“Don’t play into the hands of anti- national elements. They want to disturb our societal harmony. Defeat their designs. Don’t get provoked. Maintain calm,” IGP Jammu appealed.
Meanwhile, Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik strongly condemned the incidents of arson in Jammu in Gujjar Nagar and elsewhere incident where some communal elements freely torched the vehicles of Kashmiri Muslims and injured many others.
JRL said right that right from 1947 communal forces active in Jammu who leave no stone unturned to attack and intimidate Muslims and Kashmiri people, adding, that it is the responsibility of the government administration to ensure the safety and security of Muslims and Kashmiris and living there.
