Srinagar, May 06 (Only Kashmir): Having Rs 12 Lakh bounty on his head, Hizbul Mujahideen chief commander Reyaz Naikoo and his aide were killed in an encounter at Beighpora, Awantipora in Pulwama district.
Riyaz was a close aide of top Hizbul commander Burhan Wani, who was killed in an encounter in July 2016 which triggered massive protests in Kashmir during which some 120 civilians were killed in clashes where as thousands received deadly pellet injuries.
Reports reaching Onlykashmir[dot]in, the government as a ‘precautionary measure’ barred all the private telecom mobile networks in Kashmir, while as low speed mobile internet was earlier disabled. Meanwhile government forces in Kashmir further extended restrictions on people’s moment after reports of minor protests in downtown area of Srinagar.
Pertinently, Kashmir is reeling under strict curfew since last over last 45 days imposed aimed at to stop spread of deadly Corona Virus.
Riyaz Naikoo, 32, was born in the south Kashmir region and graduated from a college in Pulwama district. A government statement says he was a school teacher for two years, between 2010 and 2012, and gave lectures on Islamic topics. Naikoo was reported missing in 2012.
As per Onlykashmir[dot]in monitoring desk, Naikoo was described as “one of the most experienced Hizbul commanders”. He was also described “very tech-savvy” and played the role of facilitator and motivator.
“Riyaz Naikoo’s death was decided the moment he adopted path of terror,” tweets Omar Abdullah.
