Budgam; 15 Feb (Only Kashmir): Ward 9 Charar-e-Sharief of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has become dumping site with the failure of the municipal committee to arrange a garbage dumping facility, locals allege.
The solid waste including plastic bags, polythenes and other harmful wastage is being thrown on this place which causes health issues to the people dwelling around, said Nadeem Fayaz, a local resident, adding, this dumping site belongs to a migrated doctor.
The garbage mounds in our locality are common scene here with residents alleging that municipal committee is doing nothing to address our problems. We are peeved as the garbage piles that have helped increase canine population which is posing threat to people especially students and elderly persons.
The increase in stray dogs breed due to non-availability of dustbins and municipal works in our locality has become menace for locals to go outside as a result of other troubles, said Gowhar Bashir.
We are like always disappointed with the authorities as they are overlooking this grave concern apropos to environmental pollution. We cannot open the windows of our homes due to foul smell emanating from these heaps of garbage, said a group of locals.
Ward 9 of Charar-I-Sharief is named as garbage colony and we have raised our concern with the municipal committee too, but it’s unfortunate they never heed, said a local.
