Four months after his demise on late evening 1st of September 2021, unconfirmed sources suggest that the personal belongings of veteran leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani have been sent to Pakistan for display.

Sources said that six items including Geelani’s Karakuli Hat, Spectacles, Wristwatch, Cane, Achkan and Salwar have been allegedly sent to Pakistan for display. It was not confirmed that sending the personal belongings of Geelani was his will or a decision taken after the leader’s demise.

Pertinently, soon after the Geelani’s demise the Jammu and Kashmir lodged a First Information Report in Budgam district against the family members and “miscreants” who raised anti-India slogans and wrapped the body of deceased separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a Pakistani flag on September 1-2.

Geelani’s family members alleged that they were not allowed to participate in his last rites. The Hurriyat leader was buried around 3:30 a.m. in a nearby graveyard at Hyderpora, the place is guarded by the government forces to this date.

On the eve of New Year 2022, addressing a presser in Srinagar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar on Friday said that the biggest achievement and challenge during the year 2021 was managing the burial of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a “peaceful manner”.

“The biggest achievement and challenge has been burial management. We have been preparing for the last ten years. We were under tremendous tension,” IGP told reporters here during the annual press briefing.
