The Khateeb amid teary eyes completed the Friday topic after a gap of long three years. Recalling the previous parts of his sermon, which remained uncompleted since 2019, he said due to the repeated closure of mosque I was much anxious to complete the topic.
Imam Hai on the occasion asked the Government of India to release mosque’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who continues been under detention since 5 August 2019.
Pertinently, in March 2021, there were reports that Mirwaiz would be released and allowed to offer prayers at Jama Masjid , a number of media outlets carried the news about his release, however, authorities then backtrack its decision about the release of Mirwaiz with the reasons known to them only.
