Srinagar, 15 August: For the first time in his political career, the National Conference supremo and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah despite being positive for COVID 19 on Monday hoisted the tricolor at his Gupkar residence in Srinagar.

The development came on the occasion of the country’s 76th Independence day weeks after on July 6, at the “Har Ghar Tiranga campaign,”. Farooq Abdullah on record while answering a question to paparazzi about hoisting the National flag had replied in the local language, “So thavzi panni ghari” (Keep it in your house).

Farooq Abdullah’s staff and security personnel attended the function, however, no member or leader from National Conference Party cadres including Omar Abdullah was seen during the function.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Abdullah said “Independence Day is significant as it celebrates the valor and spirit of the freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and countless others.”

Farooq Abdullah born 21 October 1937 is President of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference. He has served as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on several occasions since 1982, and as the union minister for New and Renewable Energy between 2009 and 2014. He is the son of the first elected Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah, and the father of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah.
