Top leadership in Kashmir declines MP Abdullah’s call for “All Party Meet”

The top leadership of Kashmir Monday preferred not to attend the “All Party Meet” called by Member of Parliament Farooq Abdullah to discuss the issue of the alleged inclusion of non-locals in the electoral rolls of Jammu & Kashmir.

The top leadership of Valley including former ministers Altaf Bukhari, Sajad Lone, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Abdul Gani Vakil, and others terming the meeting at Farooq’s lavish residence as a “futile exercise” preferred not to attend the meeting.

“It is a futile exercise. Why should we attend the meeting? Our party is satisfied with the clarification issued by the government,” a leader of the Apni Party, wishing anonymity was quoted by a local news agency KNO.

Sajad Lone, chairman JK Peoples Conference addressing a presser said he will hold a hunger strike in front of the Parliament to oppose any move to change the electoral demography of J&K, adding, If anything concrete comes out of it (all-party meeting), will support it. I don’t want to score points. They should also support our program.

Meanwhile, at the All Party Meet, the participants including Abdullah’s, former Chief Minister in PDP-BJP alliance Mehbooba Mufti and others decided to oppose the recent announcement of the Election Commission about giving voting rights to non-J&K residents.
The meeting was also attended by unfamiliar members of parties like Shiv Sena, JDU, and Akali Dal.
