Within a month of his appointment as Director General of Police (DGP), R R Swain aimed to foster better communication between the police and members of public, launched a fortnightly grievances redressal programme at this office chambers both in Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
On the very first day of the programme, a huge gathering of people both men and women from different strata of the society were seen at Police Headquarters Peer Bagh Srinagar.
Pertinently, soon after his appointment as Police Chief of the Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir R R Swain on learning that common citizens are facing difficulties while approaching PHQ to meet him decided that on every 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month at PHQ Jammu 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month at PHQ Srinagar would be reserved for meeting people who have grievances pertaining to Police administration. The timing for grievance redressal programmes would be from 1400 hrs to 1600 hrs (two hours) on all Saturdays.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of programme, Swain said that it is a new effort and such programmes have a message value to connect with the people. He said that I am sure such a programme will have substantive results and I would come to know about different categories of grievances & complaints that have effects on police administration.
He said that this is an opportunity, and we opened a window for the people who have genuine grievances, they can approach PHQ between the given time schedule for their redressal at Srinagar and Jammu.
Parveena (name changed) while talking with Onlykashmir.in after her meeting with the Police Chief said by understanding the specific challenges faced by the community, the police chief can work collaboratively with citizens to develop proactive strategies for crime prevention, she said such initiatives are always beneficial for the people’s welfare.
Another visitor stated that discussing issues directly with citizens allows for quicker problem resolution and the development of strategies to address specific challenges faced by the community, adding, that this process should have been started earlier, however, we hope this will continue to foster better communication between the police and members of the public.
Pertinently, IPS officer R.R. Swain on October 31 took over as 17th Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. A 1991 batch IPS officer Mr. Swain also serves as Special DG CID and the Intelligence Chief of Jammu and Kashmir since June 2020.
