Mir Iterat Haideri starts cycling from Kashmir to Delhi to raise awareness about the drug menace

In a bold and inspiring move, Mir Iterat Haideri, acclaimed as the first mountain cyclist of Srinagar, has set off on a remarkable journey from the picturesque valley of Kashmir to the bustling streets of Delhi, amid at to shed light on the growing drug epidemic gripping communities and to advocate for a drug-free society.

Haideri, a seasoned cyclist known for his adventurous spirit and passion for social causes, kicked off his expedition from the iconic Clock Tower in Srinagar amidst cheers and support from locals on 2nd day of Eid ul Fitr i.e on 11 April 2024.


Haideri embarked on a grueling yet purposeful journey spanning over 800 miles, braving challenging terrains and unpredictable weather conditions.

The decision to undertake this arduous journey stemmed from Haideri’s deep concern over the escalating drug problem plaguing not only his hometown but also various parts of the country. With Kashmir witnessing a surge in drug abuse cases in recent years, Haideri felt compelled to take action and raise awareness about the dire consequences of substance abuse.

“I have witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of drugs on individuals and families in Kashmir. It’s heartbreaking to see the youth falling prey to this menace,” said Haideri while talking with this news portal Onlykashmir[dot]in.

His expedition, aptly named “#Avoid_Drugs Ride for Peace,” aims to draw attention to the societal perils of drug addiction while advocating for rehabilitation and prevention measures.


Along the way, Haideri plans to engage with communities, hold awareness sessions, and collaborate with local authorities and organizations working in the field of substance abuse prevention.

“Through this journey, I hope to spark conversations, inspire action, and ultimately contribute to building a healthier and drug-free society,” Haideri expressed, highlighting the significance of collective efforts in combating the drug crisis.
