The majestic Himalayas, lush valleys, and pristine lakes are not only sources of aesthetic pleasure but also crucial components of Kashmir’s identity and livelihood.
However, rapid urbanization, industrialization, and climate change threaten this fragile ecosystem. Hence, Earth Day serves as an opportune moment to reflect on the state of environmental conservation in Kashmir and renew commitments to sustainable practices.
Kashmir’s environmental challenges have historical roots, intertwined with political and socio-economic dynamics. Decades of conflict have not only caused human suffering but also inflicted environmental damage. Furthermore, the region’s geopolitical significance has led to exploitation of natural resources without adequate environmental safeguards.
