Despite a significant loss in the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, independent candidate Sheeban Ashai secured 13,071 votes, making him the highest scorer among the 15 independent candidates.
Ashai in his maiden electoral candidature also outperformed three candidates from other parties, achieving a vote share of 1.94%.
The winner, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference candidate Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, garnered 52.85% of the votes, winning by a margin of 188,416 votes.
Sheeban Ashai, known for his articulate and compelling arguments, has made a notable impact in Kashmir’s political circles, showcasing his potential as a significant political figure despite the overall election outcome.
