SRINAGAR, JULY 09: The Health and Medical Education (H&ME) department has introduced significant reforms to enhance the well-being and work-life balance of Senior Residents (SRs), Tutors, and Postgraduate (PG) students in Government Medical Colleges of J&K. These include a weekly one-day off and 20 days of casual leave, along with five academic leaves per year.

  • Weekly One-Day Off: For SRs, Tutors, and PG students, subject to work exigencies.
  • Leave Benefits:
    • 20 days of casual leave and five academic leaves per year.
    • Female SRs, Tutors, and PG students are granted maternity leave as per government rules.
    • Male SRs, Tutors, and PG students are granted paternity leave.
    • Training/course duration extended by the leave duration taken.
  • Compliance: Follows National Medical Commission (NMC) and National Board of Education (NBE) norms.

Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of Health and Medical Education, emphasized the importance of these changes in creating a supportive work environment and improving the mental and physical health of PG students and SRs. The reforms aim to ensure a balance between demanding academic schedules and personal well-being. Additional measures, such as a robust grievance redressal mechanism and anti-ragging policies, are also being planned to support the medical staff further.
