Srinagar, July 20: Kashmir’s largest cleric body Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), led by Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, has urged for peace and unity amid a sectarian controversy at Khankah e Maula, Shrine Srinagar.

MMU emphasized the historical unity and harmony of Jammu and Kashmir’s people and warned against attempts to disrupt this legacy.

MMU suspects the incident was a planned attempt to hurt sectarian sentiments and called for an investigation by the Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Board.

Additionally, MMU will form a committee with members from both sects to investigate and identify those responsible.

The MMU also condemned disrespectful remarks made by some Sunni and Shia scholars during Ashura Muharram events and mourning processions.

They stressed the need for restraint to maintain cohesion and stability in Kashmiri society. MMU urged scholars and preachers to refrain from hurtful comments and speeches that damage unity and make the community vulnerable.
