On Independence Day, Mohammad Maqbool, a Bandipora artisan, displayed a handcrafted Indian flag on a traditional Kashmiri rug at Srinagar’s historic Clock Tower.

The flag, woven over two months, highlights Kashmiri craftsmanship and the struggles faced by local artisans. Maqbool hopes to bring attention to the plight of Kashmiri artisans and the importance of preserving their art.

Meanwhile, a man from Ahmedabad, Gujarat celebrated Independence Day by painting the Indian tricolor on his body and parading at Srinagar’s Clock Tower early on August 15, 2024.
