Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and former legislator M.Y. Tarigami has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI), requesting relief for the print media in Jammu and Kashmir amid the ongoing implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) due to upcoming elections.

Tarigami highlighted the financial struggles of the print media in the region, exacerbated by the suspension of government advertisements under the MCC.

He argued that this suspension has significantly impacted the already struggling industry, which had faced similar challenges during the previous Parliamentary elections.

In his letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Tarigami emphasized the importance of functional media during elections and urged the ECI to allow government ads to continue, stressing that this would help sustain the print media.

He hoped the ECI would consider the situation and approve his request to support the media in playing its crucial role in society.
