Shiv Sena (UBT) has made history by fielding a candidate in the Kashmir Valley for the first time. Mohammad Ramzan Dar, representing the Shiv Sena from the Hazratbal assembly seat in Srinagar, submitted his nomination in the presence of the party’s state chief, Manish Sahni, along with many supporters.
Sahni criticized the Modi-led central government for what he termed discriminatory treatment towards Jammu and Kashmir. He alleges that the region is being denied the special status and rights it deserves, similar to other states like Manipur, Assam, and Nagaland under Article 371. He pointed out that recent amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act have increased the Lieutenant Governor’s powers, diminishing the Assembly’s role and compromising the democratic rights of the people.
Shiv Sena’s campaign in the region is focused on promises such as restoring special privileges for Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring local rights, providing free electricity and water, supporting the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits, and more. The presence of several party officials, including Malik Bashir, Balwant Singh, and others, underscored the party’s commitment to these issues.
