Srinagar, Nov 7 — A group of applicants for Assistant Professor positions at the University of Kashmir is urging Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to suspend upcoming interviews, citing concerns about potential favoritism.

The applicants claim that interviews for open Assistant Professor roles, scheduled from November 11 to 14, 2024, were hastily arranged as the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure nears its end. The delegation argued that conducting interviews at this point is “unethical and possibly illegal,” suggesting it might benefit “favored candidates with bureaucratic ties.”

The applicants are calling on the LG, who serves as the university’s Chancellor, and the Chief Minister, who acts as Pro-Chancellor, to intervene for a transparent recruitment process. They also plan to bring their concerns to local legislators, aiming to raise the issue during the upcoming Assembly session.
