Considering the crucial and multifaceted role of the media in impacting society, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) today exhorted the media fraternity to provide accurate, timely, and relevant information to the audience while striving for factual accuracy and fairness in reporting.
The DIPR organized an event to commemorate National Press Day at Srinagar. The day was observed to acknowledge the significance of the fourth pillar of democracy, its role in the matrix of information flow, and the dynamic transformation of society. Besides, the media’s essential role as a pivotal tool for Information, Education, and Communication of government schemes and programs was also highlighted.
The media fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir, students, Joint Director, Kashmir, Mohammad Aslam, Deputy Director PR, Kashmir, Ahsan ul Haq Chisti, Senior official Burhan Wani, and officials of DIPR were present on the occasions.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Aslam acknowledged the importance and sharing of the Press in crafting an informed society while serving the means of dissemination of a wide spectrum of information. He underscored the need for ethical journalism with impeccable integrity in reporting the news. He maintained that with the growth of social media and other digital media platforms, the credibility of news has become the top concern. He also detailed the skill, knowledge, data, and seriousness involved in Journalism as a profession. He urged the journalist fraternity to adopt moral and ethical values in their noble profession.
The resource persons, Dr. Rashid Maqbool from Kashmir University and Dr. Ruheela Hassan from IUST, presented a historical perspective on the changing nature of the Press and its contribution to developing an informed society through events, changes, and transformation in the global world.
