On Wednesday, the much-anticipated CRPF T20 Cricket Cup 2024 started with a grand opening ceremony at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Inspector General of the CRPF’s Srinagar Sector, inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest, joined by senior officers like DIGs PK Singh, HS Kales, Sudhir Khmar, and Prashant Dar, along with other CRPF leaders.
In his speech, IG Sharma emphasized the importance of engaging Kashmiri youth through sports and providing opportunities for young talent to shine. He also announced the launch of the CRPF Football Cup next month. Highlighting the peaceful environment in Kashmir, he assured that security forces are working together to maintain stability in Kashmir.
The tournament features 16 teams—12 from Srinagar and 4 from Budgam and Ganderbal—competing in 31 matches over nine days in a league-cum-knockout format. The winners will receive ₹1,50,000, and the runners-up will take home ₹1,25,000. Matches are live-streamed on social media, with live scores on the CricHeroes app and updates broadcast on 93.5 Red FM.
In the opening match, Kashmir Tigers Sonwar dominated Kashmir Strikers Sozeith. The Tigers bowled out the Strikers for just 68 runs in 12.5 overs and chased the target in only 4.2 overs. Abid Nabi, named Player of the Match, claimed three wickets and contributed 18 runs, winning ₹3,000 and cricket shoes from Liberty Shoes.
The second game saw Elegant Strikers beat Srinagar Sultans Nishat. Amir Aziz shone with 5 wickets for just 18 runs, while Danish Hilal’s unbeaten 59 led the Strikers to victory.
IG Sharma reaffirmed the CRPF’s commitment to connecting with Kashmir’s youth through sports and fostering a positive and peaceful environment in Kashmir.
