Following the directions of NALSA and JK Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kupwara today organized an awareness cum training program for LADCs, Panel Lawyers, and PLVs on Rights, entitlements, and challenges faced by the LGBQTIA community at Conference Hall ADR Centre, Court Complex Kupwara.
The program was held under the supervision of Shazia Tabasum, Chairperson DLSA, Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Kupwara and the guidance of Moneer Ahmad, Secretary/ Sub-Judge, DLSA Kupwara.
Secretary, DLSA Kupwara, Moneer Ahmad, addressing the gathering, highlighted the importance of fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, celebrating diversity and promoting equality, and promoting equality for the LGBQTIA community.
He also stressed the need for all legal functionaries to empower and spread awareness about the free legal aid provided to such communities.
The programme started with a welcome address by Mozamil Yousuf Bhat, Deputy Chief LADC Kupwara, which was followed by insightful and well-articulated speeches by speakers.
Earlier, Mozamil Yousuf underscored all the essential points ranging from basic definitions and terminologies to rights, entitlements and issues the community faces in day-to-day life.
Resource Person, Tawseef Raja threw light regarding constitutional Rights, political, educational rights of LGBQTs. He also underlined discrimination laws, and their legal protection as guaranteed by the constitution of India.
He stressed that these communities must not be discriminated against or subject to abuse or suppression.
The program was attended by LADCs Kupwara, Panel Lawyers, Officials of DLSA, PLVS and General Public/ Litigants.
