To showcase and advance the Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy 2024, a dedicated pavilion has been set up at the Film Bazaar of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. This platform aims to spotlight the new policy and attract attention from the global film community.
The festival, a prestigious event in the film world, was inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
Jatin Kishore, Director of Information for J&K, elaborated on the policy during a special session focused on Jammu and Kishore. He outlined initiatives designed to position Jammu and Kashmir as a top destination for filmmakers. “The policy seeks to encourage both domestic and international productions by offering substantial financial incentives,” Kishore explained.
Highlights of the policy include:
• A single-window clearance system for quick shooting approvals.
• Nodal Officers to support filmmakers on the ground.
• Financial benefits, including a 10% production subsidy and an additional 25% incentive for films winning national or international awards.
Jammu and Kashmir’s diverse natural and cultural landscapes—ranging from breathtaking valleys and lakes to historic landmarks and urban settings—were also emphasized as unique attractions for filmmakers.
The J&K government is focused on infrastructure growth, such as setting up film studios and production facilities. It is also committed to organizing events like film conclaves to promote the region. These efforts aim to boost the local economy, create jobs, and establish Jammu and Kashmir as a global hub for film tourism.
Kishore highlighted a recent resurgence in filmmaking in Kashmir, signaling a return to cinematic prominence after decades. The pavilion at IFFI plays a key role in showcasing J&K’s rich cinematic potential and stunning locations to the world.
