Regional News Unit, Akashvani Srinagar on Saturday organized a felicitation event to honor its staff, including Casual News Editors, Translators, District Correspondents, and data entry operators.
Chief Guest Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqui, former VC of IUST, praised Akashvani Srinagar’s news standards, citing its influence on socio-economic and political discourse and sharing his fondness for programs like Sheherbeen.
Qazi Mohammad Salman, Joint Director of PIB Srinagar, emphasized the importance of media neutrality, stating, “Media neutrality is the fundamental principle of newsmaking,” and lauded the staff’s dedication to ensuring balanced, credible news.
Mohammad Rafi, former Director of School Education, highlighted Akashvani’s commitment to inclusivity, while Ahsan-ul-Haq Chisti, Deputy Director DIPR J&K, noted the enduring relevance of radio in the digital age.
Dr. Mohammad Maroof Shah, author and columnist, called the event a meaningful recognition of staff contributions, essential for institutional growth. Program Head Gh. Rasool Akhoon commended the function’s role in motivating the RNU team.
Dr. Muslim Jan, former Assistant Professor at Kashmir University, expressed pride in MERC students excelling in various media roles.
The event began with a welcome address by Tariq Rather, Deputy Director of RNU Akashvani Srinagar, who credited the station’s success to its dedicated staff, stating, “Akashvani RNU Srinagar has been a trusted source of timely and accurate news since 1948.”
Attendees included Sunil Koul (PIB Srinagar), Shabir Ahmad Dar (RNU DDK Srinagar), and others who received appreciation certificates. News Editor Ishfaq Ahmad Shah delivered the vote of thanks.
