Sheikh Abdullah remembered on Anniversary; Holiday Proposal Sent to LG, BJP Reacts

Srinagar, 05 Dec: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, led the party functionaries in offering floral tributes and Fatiha at Sheikh’s mausoleum, Naseem Bagh Hazratbal on the 119th birth anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.

Popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is remembered for his visionary leadership and his enduring contributions to Jammu and Kashmir.

In a solemn ceremony held at Naseembagh, the Chief Minister, accompanied by Dr. Farooq Abdullah and other senior party leaders, paid floral tributes at Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s mausoleum.

Similar commemorative functions were also held at the provincial headquarters Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, and all district headquarters across Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh. Later, a majlis of Quran Khawani was held at the Tasbeeh Khana.

Proposal to restore Dec 5 as Holiday in Memory of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah sent to LG office
Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Nasir Aslam Wani today said that a formal proposal has been sent by the Council of Ministers to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, seeking the reinstatement of December 5 as a public holiday to honor the anniversary of the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. This day was canceled as a holiday by the LG administration in recent years.

BJP REACTS
Today, BJP’s General Secretary (Org) for Jammu and Kashmir Ashok Koul strongly criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for advocating autonomy for Sher-e Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and the NC’s demand for reinstating holiday on December 5.
Regarding the National Conference’s demand to reinstate a holiday on December 05, the anniversary of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, Koul said: “There are enough holidays in the calendar, so there is no need to add more.”
